It’s gonna happen anyway.": Spot on!

Recently more artists, especially the "long tail", recognize the power in leveraging social graphs to acquire fans (Note, *not* to sell music). Because they want to get emotional reaction from their crowd, grow their crowd and get to a bigger gig.

If you could do that on mobile...even better!

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

I first heard Bon Iver on Letterman the other night and have been spreading the gospel ever since. I think this is disappointing. If you are going to live by this sort of viral effort you'd think that you would have a little more tolerance towards it rather than being some sort of control freak. Love the music but this does taint it for me a bit...

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

I certainly don't disagree - just playing devil's advocate. :)

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

@mark

they did ask nicely. you are right about that

i guess the point I was trying to make was the contrast between the take down notice and the WSJ article about the same artist

and ultimately I believe that online communities, like social music blogs, promote more music than not and lead to more sales vs piracy.

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

That does stink, but in their defense, they're just trying to maintain a 'brand' - maybe he hates those old songs. Doesn't seem like it's unreasonable for him to ask you to take it down. I'm not sure why you'd be upset about it when almost every music blogger posts without permission in the first place. I'm just sayin'. They did ask pretty nicely.

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

Justin is an amazing artist

I felt uneasy writing this post since I'm such a fan

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

This is disappointing, to say the least.

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

Well this is sort of heartbreaking to hear him and his label take this stance.

I've taken great pride in promoting and sharing Justin's work as well.

Very confusing.

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

Thanks!

Re: Justin Vernon gets love from blogs but needs to give it too.

Sigh...One step forward, 2 steps back. You've more than done your part Bijan.
I've been intro'd to many great bands/songs this year by you and Fred.
