Giving Blippy a try
Also, Brian Eno.
And you should also get a copy of Guided By Voices "Bee Thousand" on vinyl as well. It's required listening for sure.
Those are fantastic suggestions.
Thx.

Velvet Underground & Nico (in part so that you get that album jacket as god intended it)
U2, War (though I'm not sure it's been reissued on vinyl and you can't have my copy :) )
Not sure whether they're to your taste, but both Minor Threat's eponymous LP and Fugazi's Repeater would be on my list.
And to close on a completely different note, I'd also go for Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper, and Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home.
On a tangent, I'm not limiting to "classic" albums but after the last 18 months or so I've returned to my mp3-only policy as a starting point: I only buy mp3s, but then pick up the vinyl later on for the stuff that I really love. I ended up going that route after listening to some 70+ year old 78s and realizing that wax seems to have the best odds of being playable for my grandkids. :)
Congrats on the turntable, Bijan. One of my favorite things on vinyl is Christmas music, for that extra bit of nostalgia. Also, Simon & Garfunkel :)
How do you feel about the scratchy sound of vinyl after all these years on digital?
Its more like smooth. Don't know how else to explain it.
James Brown "Live At The Apollo" - tightest band ever, incredible tempo changes, James at his best (and it shouldn't cost you much to get).
Honestly, *every* Blue Note record from the 60s will sound awesome (specifically, the Rudy Van Gelder recorded stuff). Too many to name, but RVG's studios had *that* sound.
Head over to DustyGroove.com and you can pick up tons of great stuff, including a HUGE number of 45's (hint, they sound better!).

Get the ORIGINAL Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" LP, the one with the actual zipper on the cover.
Stones are SO good on vinyl.
but I think you are right :)
Maybe we should setup a Boston vinyl record swap. What do you think?
I'm all over the swap idea although I first need to build up my collection so I can give too.

- Grant Green - Feelin' the Spirit (with a young unknown pianist named Herbie Hancock)
- Wes Montgomery - Smokin' at the Half Note...
I'm not home, will have to check out my collection...and find a turntable to buy finally. I like the sanctuary idea too. I'm hooked.
Those were fun days my friend. CBGBs in nyc.

anyway, i always start with Exile On Main Street, always have and always will no matter if its a new turntable, new cd player, new system, sonos, ipod, whatever
but quadrophenia is equally awesome and a great choice
