I understand the answer and appreciate the feedback but still think it's a strange structure. When you use Flickr photos on Vox it doesn't count against your 2gb monthly allowance, same with Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad, etc. I get the reasoning behind the policy but it might be overkill...

Love Tumblr though!!!

Re: Off the high speed grid

@Dan

I'm sure the Tumblr support folks will get back to you on this as well - but we do have an automated limit set on photos in order to to prevent spam/abuse. Also, we do store copies of photos, even those uploaded via URL. This is in place to avoid leaching bandwidth from third-party servers. So, photos uploaded via URL do take up disk space.

Hope this helps.

Best
John Maloney

Re: Off the high speed grid

Enjoy your time off the high-speed grid. Nice to unplug every once in a while.

Re: Off the high speed grid

I'm upset with Tumblr today. I've been working on my blog http://danblogs.tumblr.com and I have added a lot of photos by using a url link from Picasa and for some reason those external links count against the total # of photos I can upload which makes no sense given that Tumblr doesn't have to utilize any disc space for those photos. I've written support but no other blogging service keeps score that way, pretty bizarre.
